This book looks interesting

From the Publisher
Richard Peck is a master of stories about people in transition, but perhaps never before has he told a tale of such dramatic change as this one, set during the first year of the Civil War. The whole country is changing in 1861-even the folks from a muddy little Illinois settlement on the banks of the Mississippi. Here, fifteen-year-old Tilly Pruitt frets over the fact that her brother is dreaming of being a soldier and that her sister is prone to supernatural visions. A boy named Curry could possibly become a distraction.
Then a steamboat whistle splits the air. The Rob Roy from New Orleans docks at the landing, and off the boat step two remarkable figures: a vibrant, commanding young lady in a rustling hoop skirt and a darker, silent woman in a plain cloak, with a bandanna wrapped around her head. Who are these two fascinating strangers? And is the darker woman a slave, standing now on the free soil of Illinois? When Tilly's mother invites the women to board at her house, the whole world shifts for the Pruitts and for their visitors as well.

Within a page-turning tale of mystery, adventure, and the civilian Civil War experience, Richard Peck has spun a breathtaking portrait of the lifelong impact that one person can have on another. This is a novel of countless riches.

Author Biography: Richard Peck has won almost every children's fiction award, including the Newbery Medal, and he has recently received a National Humanities Medal from the White House.

ariesroses: Books to read

Okay..I'm really tired here so I'm gonna list a few books that are good.

Demon in my View by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes

This book is a young adult book which is about vampires. I have all her books except for the newest one she has out which is about shape shifters though. The setting of the book takes place during high school. I think her books are good!

Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice

Anyone who likes Anne Rice, should read Blackwood Farm. This book has richness in it. When I read the book, I couldn't put it down. I was hooked on it. I'm still trying to catch up with all of Anne Rice's novels. There are lot to read. She also has a new one out called Blood Canticle.

I'm sure I could list tons of more right now but my head hurts. I have a fascination with picture books and vampire/romance novels too. Hehehehe Yeah I know I'm strange.

templeofpopart: For alla ya Brit and Euro Vladiators

Calling all Brit Vladiators (& Cecile, Mookie & Chantal!)
Are you likely to be in London in August?
Ojibwe Snow will be coming over - flying the flag for the US Vladiators & her childhood dream to see Blighty - so I wanna take her to her first spit n sawdust London boozer for a right ol' gorblimey knees up - she says she's a demon at playing pool, chaps ..she clearly hasn't played Cecile yet obviously! Hee hee! ;-)
Because Snow's Ojibwa (& I've been adopted Ojibwa by her & her hub) it is a traditional sign of respect that all of you get the first round of beverages in!!
Hope you guys can make it - welcome to crash at my place :-)
